An Informal Walking Group for Walkers aged 40 and over
Organising Walks & Social Events in Surrey, West Sussex & North East Hants

Walking with SWSW

South West Surrey Walkers "SWSW" is an informal group who get together for walks twice monthly. We ask members to organise and guide walks. We do not have professional walk leaders, and each person participating in the walk is responsible for their own safety. New members are welcome but please read our information and guidelines before you join us for a walk.

Sunday 3rd - Winkworth Arboretum

Leader: John and Margo

Start: 10:15 AM (car park opens at 10:00)

Our meeting place: The top car park of Winkworth Arboretum. This is located beside the B2130 between Godalming and Hascombe. Postcode GU8 4AD. National Trust menbership card is not essential, but it can make life easier.

Details: 5 and 1/2 miles through the Arboretum and surrounding countryside. Good autumn colours, fantastic views, hopefully. There are hills, so bring sticks if you use them. There could be mud!

Lunch: Probably the NT cafe on site.

Sunday 17th - Polesden Lacey to Denbies

Leader: Roger Adams

Start: 10:00 AM

Our meeting place: Meet at entrance to Polesden Lacey (NT), I.E. by the café and the toilets. For those with a sat nav the post code to use is KT23 4PZ. Polesden Lacey is signposted off the A246 (Guildford to Leatherhead road) at Bookham. The car park is free to NT members. If not an NT member and you don’t want to pay, there is a small car park close by. As you approach Polesden Lacey, rather than bearing left to go under the arch, carry straight on along an unmetalled track. The car park is some 150 yards on the left. After leaving the car, carry on up the track and enter the NT car park, which is on your left. Go through the car park to the main entrance.

Details: The walk will take us through woods and fields to Denbies vineyard and then back to Polesden Lacey for lunch. There are a few hill and stiles; at this time of year the paths may also be muddy. The walk will be around 2.5 hours, which equates to some 6 or 7 miles. Hopefully, we will be rewarded with bright autumn colours and views over the Mole gap to Box Hill and south to the Weald and South Downs.

Lunch: PL NT Cafe is handy!
