Walking with SWSW

South West Surrey Walkers "SWSW" is an informal group who get together for walks twice monthly. We ask members to organise and guide walks. We do not have professional walk leaders, and each person participating in the walk is responsible for their own safety. New members are welcome but please read our information and guidelines before you join us for a walk X.

Sunday 2nd - Chinthurst Hill

Leader: John and Margo

Start: 10:00 AM

Our meeting place: Chinthurst Hill Car Park. (GU4 8HS is nearby). Take the A248 out of Shalford. Turn right by the green 'Borough of Waverly' sign, off the B2128 from Shalford to Shamley Green. This turn is about 300m beyond the left turn to Chilworth. Parking is free.

Details: 5 1/2 miles over farmland and heathland, around Wonersh, and back via the summit of Chinthurst Hill, where good views can be found. Some steep hills!

Lunch: possibly sandwiches or a burger at The Snooty Fox cafe in Shalford. Maybe beer at The Parrot.

Sunday 16th - Brockham, Deepdene and Betchworth Castle

Leader: Jenny Page, 07483844240

Start: 10:00 AM

Our meeting place: Brockham Village, near Dorking. postcode RH3 7JS. Park on one of the roads that criss cross the village green. Please meet in front of the Royal Oak pub.

Details: an unusual 6 1/2 mile circular walk beginning from one of Surreys best-kept villages, with two places of interest, one is the ruins of Betchworth Castle over looking the river Mole. The other is Deepdene a landscaped estate with a garden and adventure trails, the views are stunning.

Please be aware that whilst this walk is 6 1/2 miles it will take longer than usual as we will be taking time to enjoy the places of interest. Estimated time of arrival back at our starting point is 2.15pm, so bearing that in mind, it would be a good idea to bring a snack just in case hunger pains set in! Probably not an ideal walk for those in a hurry to get home afterwards.

Lunch: There is an opportunity to stop for coffee on route at the golf club cafe if everyone would like to, and two pubs to choose from for lunch at the end of the walk.
