An Informal Walking Group for Walkers aged 40 and over
Organising Walks & Social Events in Surrey, West Sussex & North East Hants

While we love walking in and around Surrey, it's nice to have a change. We aim to have several walking holidays each year, ranging from a weekend to longer trips. Here are some notes from last years trip to Dorset.

Weekend in Corfe 24 – 26 April

14 of us had a very enjoyable weekend in Corfe.  Whilst the weather wasn’t as good as it had been the week previously, contrary to the forecast we didn’t have any rain during the day.

On Friday afternoon we had a five mile walk from Studland with lovely views and warm sunny weather followed by cream tea (for some) and supper in a local pub.

Saturday was unfortunately very foggy which made navigation of this 8 mile walk very tough as there were no landmarks visible to the naked eye.  But we managed to find our way from Corfe to Swanage although didn’t make it down to Dancing Ledge and the coastal path as the sea mist was rolling in very quickly.  We were rather impressed by a group of young men who were going to the cliffs to dive off into the sea – for reasons best known to themselves.  Most of us then caught the local steam train back to Corfe before eating in another local pub.

Sunday gave us much better visibility for our 4 mile walk from Tyneham, the village that the army evacuated during the second world war and which has never been inhabited since.  We walked down to the sea and then up a very steep but rewarding hill which gave us lovely views and a great feeling of achievement.

All in all a very enjoyable weekend.
